Instituto Nuevos Caminos: Internship in Special Education

This is a Special Education School sponsored by a private foundation. It is an area that requires a lot of assistance, because the government does not provide all the needed provision for this population. Interns with some background or interest in special education can help in classroom work, general supervision or in assisting individual children with major disabilities. This school provides services for 45 children with special needs, with varying degrees of pathologies, ranging from Down syndrome to mild cerebral palsy.

Volunteer Role/Skills Required

In this program, interns will be expected to assist the teachers in their daily routines. Interns will be aides to the teachers, helping them set up for class and take care of the students during the school day. Interns will help with daily activities for students as well as special projects. Interns will also work directly with the children in the classroom.
